What Is Parent Coaching And How Can It Help Me?
Feeling overwhelmed by parenting information or if your child has a recent neurodivergent diagnosis, individualized coaching can help you support their success. Parent coaching allows you to gain skills to address your child's behavior, focusing on problem-solving and skill-building rather than direct therapy. Research shows this model is more effective in creating lasting changes when parents are involved in the process. Additionally, parent coaching can complement other mental health services your child may be receiving.
Parent Coaching FAQ
What can I expect in the first Parent Coaching session?
Everything you need for your first session will be included in a confirmation email. If we are meeting via teletherapy, you will click on a provided link when it's time for our appointment. We will spend a few minutes talking about the coaching process and getting to know one another. You can ask any questions or get clarification at this time. Then, we will discuss your current challenges as well as hopes and goals for the future. Meetings last 1 hour. At the end of the meeting, we will schedule a follow-up meeting 2 weeks later (or at a time that is convenient for you.)
Who participates in a Parent Coaching session?
Anyone responsible for the care of a child or children, including parents, foster parents, grandparents, or guardians, whether they are married, co-parenting, or single. You may attend alone or bring along another who shares in the care of your children.
Does my child participate in a Parent Coaching session?
No, children are not participants in parent coaching sessions. Caregivers, only. We recommend scheduling meetings when you have time and space to think and process without interruptions. Your time and money are valuable.
