Child Therapy

Learn more about Child Therapy sessions at Sunstone Psychology Group.

Child therapy can be profoundly effective, particularly when a therapeutic rapport is established between the therapist and the child.

Children often face challenges articulating thoughts and emotions given that verbal communication may not the primary mode of expression due to their developmental stage.

This is where play therapy becomes invaluable, as it creates a safe place for children to process complex emotions, address problems, and experience positive interactions.

As a structured and evidence-based approach, play therapy aligns with the natural communicative and learning processes of children. By catering to a child's developmental level, play therapy facilitates the release of distressing emotions, encourages safe expression of inner experiences, and fosters self-respect and social skills.

The unique relationship formed in play therapy empowers children to identify their strengths, alleviating distress and promoting positive behaviors. Children develop a healthier self-image, they are more likely to engage in constructive actions.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a recognized form of counseling designed for children ages three to eleven. It utilizes play as a means for psychologists, therapists and counselors to communicate and effectively understand the mental health of young clients. Given that children develop cognitive skills prior to language skills, play serves as an effective medium for gaining insights into their experiences. Therapists may observe children engaging with toys such as playhouses and dolls, to better comprehend their behavior and identify any underlying issues.
